About
With the introduction of Flexible Dates Booking in the Fly Delta App, flight shopping became faster and more empowering. Travelers can compare fares across multiple dates in a single, scannable view, quickly identifying the best options without repeated searches.
More than a pricing tool, Flexible Dates maximizes value across loyalty tiers, surfacing Companion Certificates eligibility, Upgrade Certificates availability, and clear cash vs miles comparisons. Built mobile-first and deeply integrated into the booking flow, it delivers a seamless and unique experience across the industry.
Challenges
Pricing Logic
Prices for roundtrip tickets are calculated as a single combination of outbound and return fares instead of individual prices.
Information Density
The experience needed to display a ±3 day range around the selected dates, resulting in a 7×7 grid, an inherently large dataset for a mobile interface.
Multiple Benefits in One View
Companion Certificates and upgrade eligibility had to be represented directly in the grid without overwhelming users or obscuring price comparison.

Every Detail Matters
The View Finder
User’s location on the grid is reflected in viewfinder; dots can also be used to indicate lowest fares.
The Zoomed In Grid
Users can browse through the 3x3 view of the 7x7 grid total swiping to both axis. The rows and columns sticks to the next one as a paged swipe.
Dynamic Info
Information updates based on users’ selected dates; the component is also used to indicate certificate offers, certificates and availability depending on scenario and medallion status.
Built to Handle Real-World Travel Complexity
Flex Dates is designed to support a wide range of travel scenarios, including roundtrip and one-way flights, fallback options to be used when preferred dates are unavailable when booking, companion certificate eligibility, cash versus miles pricing, and Amex–Delta joint offers. All within a single, cohesive experience.
